Last week the U.S. Marines got up close and personal with the Boston Dynamics Spot robot.
Military robotics developer Boston Dynamics, owned by Google X, is working on a walking, quadruped battle robot known as Spot. The latest version of the robot weighs around 70 kilograms, is electrically operated and moves around on 4 legs, writes Martyn Williams for IT World.

Traffic gridlock to ease off within 48 hours- Truck owners

The National President of the Association of Maritime Truck Owners, Remi Ogungbemi says the traffic gridlock currently being experienced in Lagos will ease off within the next 48 hours. Speaking with NAN, Odugbemi said
“Since the Lagos State Government relaxed the restriction of trucks to start moving in the day, accessing the ports had been difficult, due to trucks trapped by the law.
Trucks in the port have to go out for incoming ones, the Nigeria Customs Service

Armed Robbers storm Catholic Church in Abuja

 
The Catholic Church of Annunciation, Kubwa, was upgraded as a Parish by the Archdiocese of Abuja and less than 3 months after the upgrade, suspected armed robbers stormed it and carted away valuable equipment and a Toyota Camry.

The robbers forced their way into compounds and carted away whatever they could lay their hands on.

Army Boss Promotes 5,000 Soldiers Fighting Boko Haram

The Nigerian Army has approved the promotion of 5,000 soldiers fighting insurgents in the North-East and others involved in other operations, as part of steps to boost their morale.

The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, made the announcement on Monday in Abuja at the opening of the 2015 Chief of Army Staff third quarter conference held at the Army Headquarters conference hall.

Eid-el-Kabir Festival-- Osun Provides Free Train Service

The Osun Government on Sunday said it would provide free train service for its citizens who would be travelling to Osogbo from Lagos for the Eid-el-Kabir festival.
 
This is contained in a statement issued by Semiu Okanlawon, the media aide to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, and made available to journalists in Osogbo.
 
According to the statement, the free train service would convey people from Lagos to Osogbo on Tuesday and Wednesday at 11:00 am.

Update: Falae's Kidnappers Demand 100 million Ransom

 

Reports reaching us have indicated that the kidnappers of Olu Falae, a chieftain of Afenifere and National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), have demanded for a N100 million ransom.
 
Chief Falae, a former secretary to the government and presidential aspirant in the 1999 presidential elections, was kidnapped from his home in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State early Monday.

National Tragedy: Floods kill 53, displace 100,420 people across Nigeria


National Tragedy 
No fewer than 53 people have died in 11 states from floods that displaced more than 100,420 people this year.Thousands of houses, farmlands and property worth billions of Naira were also lost to the flood disasters in many local government areas affected in the northern states.

The affected states are Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Jigawa, Adamawa, Yobe, Gombe and Bauchi.
 
In Kano State, a Director with the State Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Agency (SERERA), Sabi’u Mohammed, said 12 people lost their lives in the disasters.

Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Yakubu Umar, has issued a fresh arrest warrant on Nigerian Senate President, Bukola Saraki, after he failed to show up at the tribunal this morning. Are they not aware that the Court of Appeal granted a stay of execution order on their arrest warrant?

51 confirmed dead in multiple bomb blast in Maiduguri

51 people have so far been confirmed dead in the multiple bomb blast that rocked the Gomari and Ajilari areas of Maiduguri yesterday night. NEMA officials say the death toll may increase as many of the victims are in very critical conditions. Suspected Boko Hamarm members planted one of the bombs inside a mosque while people were praying.
