Ogun Abandons Multi Billion Naira Road Project (Photos)

The last time construction work was done on the 32km Sango/Ijoko-Agbado/Oke-Aro/Akute/Ojodu Abiodun road was in November 2014. The project had kicked off in late 2012.

Now the project has stalled with less that 40% completed after demolishing several houses in the Sango/Ijoko-Agbado/Oke-Aro/Akute/ axis. The state of the road is also nothing to write home about. Whenever it rains, the area becomes flooded due to the several abandoned bridges along the road.

Residents of Sango/Ijoko-Agbado/Oke-Aro/Akute/ communities who spoke with Naij.com described the entire road project as a scam.

“The governor stated this project due to his re-election. If not for his re-election, he wouldn’t have remembered us here. He has made the road worse than it was. It would have been better if he had not kicked off the project,” a resident told our correspondent.

Another resident who said he has been living in Akute since 1996 said: “Gbenga Daniel (a former governor of Ogun) repaired the road sometimes in 2005 which was a fairly good job. But what Ibikunle Amosun is doing is better but it appears he did it for electoral gains. As you can see, the construction site has been abandoned for about a year now. People now park their cars at home and use okada.”

Residents also claimed that in the wake of the election, the governor visited the several construction sites on the road in an attempt to win the votes of the people but stopped immediately he won the election.

Naij.com learnt that a generous resident of the area volunteered to grade the road and make it a bit more usable after a section of the road had become impassable.

Meanwhile, following the reaction that has trialed the arrest of a blogger and Ogun state citizen, Ojo Emmanuel Adediran, by the Ogun state police command allegedly on the command of the state governor, Ibikunle Amodun, a federal lawmaker has described the governor’s action as unlawful.
