Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal has been arrested by Chilean police after he crashed his £230,000 Ferrari while driving under the influence of alcohol.

The BBC reports that accident happened on the outskirts of Santiago on June 16, Tuesday. The footballer reportedly rammed into another vehicle on the motorway before veering off-road.

Vidal and his wife Maria Teresa Matus, who was alongside him in the car, were not seriously injured: the footballer had a slight bruise on his neck while his wife’s elbow was damaged.

Commenting on the accident, Colonel Ricardo Gonzalez, Chilean national police chief, said: “The driver of the red vehicle was under the influence of alcohol”.

Vidal was taken to the local hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries. However, later he was spotted leaving the hospital in the back seat of a police car.

After the accident the 28-year-old midfielder tweeted that he was fine and thanked fans for their concern and support.

“Unfortunately I was involved in a traffic accident. Luckily we are all well and quiet. Thanks for the concern! “I’m doing well, greetings to all and thanks for your concern,” he wrote.

Vidal is currently taking part in the Copa America tournament, playing for the Chile national team. The footballer starred in their 3-3 draw with Mexico on June, 15, Monday in which he scored twice. He also scored in the opening game against Ecuador.

Juventus midfielder had been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer. However, the club bosses haven’t lodged any formal interest yet.

The footballer has also of interest to Real Madrid, with general manager Giuseppe Marotta admitting “it is probable that Real will bid for Vidal”.
